I have looked at the well-known, and seemingly popular magazine 'Kerrang!' The layout style is quite cluttered and images seems to overlay each other. There is a colour scheme of Red, Black and White: this is simplistic and looks appealing, adding a level of sophistication and making the magazine appear a little more upmarket.
informing the reader than entertaining them.
In a similar way to 'Kerrang!', the main image
overlaps the title. However there is only one image
featured on the cover, the rest is text or blank space.
The simple, uncluttered look makes the magazine
seem more upmarket. However, the bright colour scheme
of Blue, black and white combined with the content of the
main image, make the magazine more suitable for a younger
audience.
'Rock & Folk' has a wider colour scheme,
(Black, Red, White and Yellow: the fact that this is
a colour scheme of 4 rather than 3 may make the
magazine appeal to a more creative audience)
There are three images featured on the cover page,
this keeps the magazine from looking too cluttered
whilst still displaying the detailed content.
The 'Metal Hammer' has a main image that slightly
overlaps the title. The font used on the cover is quite
obscured and possibly unclear. There are few images
featured on the cover. The colour scheme seems to be
limited to white and orange.
I bought a copy of 'Rock Sound' magazine so I could have a closer look at the detail on the cover, contents and a double page spread. The cover uses Sans Serif font, in a colour scheme of red, white and black. The text that details the content of the magazine is written in a box, wobs are used to vary the appearance of the text. A running head has been used with a white background and black text, this separates the main image from the edge of the magazine, eliminating a bleed. This makes the aesthetics of the magazine more upmarket.
There are multiple puffs used on the cover to add extra information and draw the readers eye to it. There is a black puff featuring an image in the top corner of the magazine and another on the cd that comes with the magazine. This is yellow, yellow also appears in the puff on the magazine cover, by using a colour unrelated to the colour scheme, it makes this information clearly visible.
